The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map.
